Vacation planning for May 2019 ✈️

Hi all!!!

This is a very exciting post for me because I’m going to write out our long 9-day trip that’s happening in May, day by day! We are calling it our honeymoon part 1 because there will be a part 2 eventually. We’ve been talking about going back to Santa Barbara for a while now and originally we were only going to go for four nights because everything was so expensive, but we found a way around it! We actually ended up making it a 9 day vacation and it wasn’t as expensive as it should’ve been. So here’s how we are planning it out.

Saturday May 25th to Sunday May 26th: Our flight leaves for LA at 5am and we will be there by 10am. We chose the LAX airport because it was much cheaper flying into LA than SB. That’s when we decided to go two days earlier than we planned and just stay in LA that weekend. We planned to go to the two parks in Disneyland and Universal Studios from the start, but just by making it a day trip from SB, but this is much easier and that way we have two full days to do whatever we want in LA. We also were able to find a cheap Airbnb right by Disneyland. But we are going to Disneyland and Universal Studios!!! I am SO pumped! It’s my first time so I’m acting like a kid, but I am too excited!

Monday May 27th to Sunday June 2nd: We rented a car so we will drive that morning from LA to SB, take a nice long cruise by the coastline, and enjoy some road trip time together. Cannot wait to see the views by the ocean and the mountains, it will be beautiful! We decided to spend the next 6 days in Santa Barbara because we found a really cheap Airbnb so we were able to stay longer than we thought. This will give us time to really soak up SB and enjoy what their city has to offer. We haven’t planned out every single thing we are doing yet, but I will update when we do! On that Sunday, we will drive back to LA and spend some time there before our flight in the evening. This is going to be the longest we’ve ever stayed in California, it’s going to be great!

That’s what we have planned so far, we literally just booked all the Airbnb’s, bought the flight tickets, and rented the car just yesterday! In a month, we’re going to purchase the Disneyland and Universal Studios tickets since those can really be purchased at any time.

Side note: I surprised Mirhad with this camera he has wanted so he could start filming (his dream is to be a director one day) and I went and bought it last night for him. He totally didn’t see it coming and had the best reaction! I told him this will be great for him taking pictures and videos of me on vacation 😂 Anyways, I’m happy he can finally use his own camera instead of mine and I know he is too! Hopefully he can learn how to use the camera like an expert by May so we can get some cool footage. Maybe by then my Youtube channel will be started?! 🙂

But yeah, that’s our trip planning. Has anyone else been to Disneyland or Universal Studios? Anything we HAVE to see?? Any recommendations for food in LA and Santa Barbara? I will do some research, but I’d love to hear from personal experience. 🙂

Planning for my Tennessee trip! 🌲

I love planning for trips, it’s one of my favorite things to do. Even if it’s a short trip, I still like to plan out the stuff I’ll bring and the stuff I don’t want to forget. So even though this trip is only 3 days, I still go all out 🙌🏼 I’m hoping for this weekend trip to be very social media free, I want to just unplug and relax. I think all of us need this so the only time I would be using my phone would be to take pictures and videos, in which I will also be using my camera.

So, the weather is saying there is a chance of snow/rain and I already am thinking about what shoes I’m bringing. Probably my duck boots, since those are great in the snow and rain. And since it’s a short trip, I don’t have to bring too much clothes!

The list of stuff I’m bringing:

Clothes

Pretty much just comfy clothing like:

  • leggings
  • undershirts
  • hoodies
  • hats
  • gloves
  • scarves
  • fuzzy socks
  • my slippers

What am I packing in my little book bag?

  • my camera
  • camera charger
  • phone charger
  • a good book to read
  • my iPad (only for movies at night if we’re bored or during the car rides)
  • a healthy snack
  • my notebook and a pen
  • my chapstick
  • deodorant
  • a body spray

Something random I might bring along is a couple board games like Sorry and UNO. That might be fun to play with the fam if we get bored (which is probably not going to happen because there will be amazing views and a nice jacuzzi to go along with them).

That’s what I usually carry when I travel anywhere. A smaller book bag is easier for me than carrying a purse. I’m not bringing any makeup for this trip because I feel like it’s pointless since it’s such a short trip and also, I don’t think I’ll need it 🙂

So yeah, that’s pretty much all I’ll be bringing! The car ride is 7 hours long so let’s hope it goes by super fast. It will be a good trip!

LA Trip Planning

Hello!

So I am going to LA to go to the Ellen Show and explore LA for the second time! I spent a couple of days researching the best places to stay at and finding the cheapest plane tickets.

So first, I checked Frontier Airlines to see their prices, I know they usually have good ones. This is what I found:

So as you can see, the prices are fine, but the problem is how long you will be traveling just to get to LA. The first one is taking me to Orlando and will take 14 hours and the second one is taking me to Denver (<3) and is much shorter than the first one, BUT the flight is just way too late. If I am going somewhere, I like to leave super early in the morning and arrive in the morning so I’m not wasting my whole day traveling! The returns were even worse, the first one would take me to Denver again, but this one takes 18 HOURS to get back home!!! So crazy, especially when there is a 6+ layover, I don’t know if I’d be able to sit at an airport for that long.. and the second one takes 9 hours, which is like 3 more than it should so it isn’t terribly bad, but it’s an overnight flight. So Frontier let me down, on to the next!

I figured I might as well try Travelocity and see if I could get a bundle deal that would include hotel + flight because that’s what I ended up doing the first time I took Mirhad to LA about 2 years ago was it??? I’ll have to check on that time. Anyways, the prices went from $600-$1,200+ a person for flight and hotel which I mean isn’t bad if you paid $600 for each person, but I just wasn’t finding a good place to stay at. I’m really picky when it comes to where I have to sleep while traveling just because I need for it to be clean in order to stay there. So these are examples of what was available on Travelocity:

I really wanted to stay in the Beverly Hills – Hollywood area just because I am familiar with that area from my last trip, but it was hard to find a hotel that was a good price, in a good area, and clean looking. Last time I went, I booked with Mama Shelter and I loved it there, it was such a cool scene.. I looked into booking there again, but it was a little too expensive for me so I passed. Plus, it’s always cool to stay at different places if you’re visiting the same place again!

So by this time, I went to check Airbnb’s and they had a lot of nice ones! So I checked for Airbnb’s around Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Burbank, Santa Monica, and Venice Beach.

So I mean they had a lot of choices, the part that was difficult was finding a good price. Yes, it’s LA, yes it’s California, so I didn’t expect anything super cheap. My main concern was making sure I was in a safe part of LA, I know there are some parts you deff need to avoid and after doing some research I knew where to stay away from.

Reddit was very helpful because I got real insight from real people. Obviously, wherever you go, act normal and don’t act obnoxious to the point where you draw bad attention to yourself. Anything can happen anywhere, but if I’m in a good neighborhood, then I’m happy! So, I looked around for a couple of days until I finally found one that was like $80 a night, which is a steal! It’s in a great area, it’s around everything I need to be around, and it’s cozy and clean! A++++++.

But I couldn’t book this without finding a way to get there first, obviously! So I went back on Travelocity and searched for some cheap tickets. I ended up finding a good deal, but I had to move my trip back one day which was fine anyways since we’ve been there before we now know exactly what we want to do.

Overall, this trip ended up being $600 cheaper than it was in the course of those couple of days of searching for good deals. So it ended up being about $550 per person for flight and Airbnb, which is a great deal. I think I paid maybe $200 more the last time I went? Glad we got it to a good price so we can spend our money on doing cool activities. We won’t be renting a car since we won’t stay longer than 4 days, but hopefully one day we can come back and stay a little longer and explore out of LA into more mountain areas!

If you plan on going to LA or anywhere for a trip, make sure to browse around for a couple of days (if possible) because prices really do change and if you search too quickly, you might find something cheaper later but you might not be able to cancel it. And don’t forget to always make sure you are staying in a good area, surrounded by lots of places to go eat!
