Visited New York for the first time in December 2016 and stayed around 5-6 days. This was around the holidays where we got to see the New Year’s celebration and explore the city. I remember the night before we went to a concert and we found out our flight was cancelled. I was so bummed because I was excited to see New York early in the morning and the city from the top. Instead we arrived pretty late around 10 pm. It sucked, but we couldn’t do anything about it. But that all changed when we arrived there obviously. Too excited to think about our flight being cancelled.
As soon as we got into our room, you heard the loudness of the city. It’s really true when they say New York never sleeps. Instead of going to bed, we decided to head out into Times Square since our hotel was next to it. It was so bright that it looked like it was 3 pm, not 11:30 pm. It was such a cool experience, especially because it was drizzling rain and that feeling of being in New York. It was nice.
We saw basically everything we wanted to see. Things and places such as:
- Times Square (of course)
- Rockefeller Center (ice-skating)
- Central Park
- Grand Central Station
- Tried to go into the Empire State Building, but the line was too long so we just saw the building instead, still pretty cool
- 9/11 Memorial
On New Year’s Eve, we went ice-skating at the Rockefeller Center and it was magical. It wasn’t even too cold. I mean the whole trip wasn’t cold at all. We just had some annoying drizzling rain, but it wasn’t freezing or snowing which was nice. Central Park was beautiful and there was so much to see. Even saw the little tunnel/bridge where Kevin from the movies was filmed at. Grand Central Station was just like from the movies, it was amazing. And 9/11 Memorial Monument was beautiful, but sad. Such a tragedy.
The shopping area in Times Square was huge. So many restaurants, food trucks, fashion stores, and random NY gift shops. Of course we had to go into all of them!! They also had a Hershey’s store with a huge Hershey’s bottle I got to hold, except there wasn’t actual chocolate in there 😂 Their Forever 21 had four stories… wish they had that here, I’d never leave LOL.
This was a very fun trip and I’d like to go back in the spring or summer time when it’s not cold and when there are lots of flowers and trees blooming. That would be a sight to see in Central Park! Maybe even take a road trip up there and visit some other places, too.
